Moscow Notes - Gorky Park

We live on Leninskiy Prospekt, the most central located apartment I have ever stayed in Moscow. The best about it is that we are 10 minute away from Gorky Park.

Designed by famous soviet avant-garde architect Konstantin Melnikov it was opened in 1928. During the post-soviet era Gorky Park used to host the amusement park with fun fairs, rides and a Ferris Wheel. My memories of that period are associated with long queues at the ticket offices, expensive rides, and yet very little fun.

Before our trip a few of my friends mentioned that the park underwent a significant reconstruction and is definitely worth a visit. And it is worth a visit! No entrance fee brings thousands on a week day to enjoy the green grass, free Wi-fi, sport activities, contemporary art projects, and lots of other things to enjoy.

А major non-profit arts project based in Moscow - Garage - opened by Dasha Zhukova in 2008 has just opened its doors in Gorky Park, having moved from its original home in the Bakhmetevsky Bus Garage.

Love is in the air in the Park, hundreds of couples who stroll along the paths holding hands and kissing under the small fountains of the watering systems. This couple appeared so genuinely in love so I asked for a photo. They kindly agreed and the girl mentioned that this would be one of only few family photos they have, and this day is two-month anniversary since they got married.  Congratulations, your guys are amazing!

A logical conclusion to this post is a famous song by Scorpions which seems to be so actual now..
