Umbrella-ella-ella...

"Rain, rain go away,
Come again another day..."

It rains every day, every single day, and despite my vigorous attempts to keep the Portuguese tan alive, I have a strong suspicion that it will soon fade... C'est la vie!

So I thought that it may be time for my post - the one I delayed for some time... Umbrellas!

Let me introduce James Smith and Son Umbrella shop - a historic and beautiful place on New Oxford Street, right in the heart of the London's West End and the amazing reminder of the Victorian period.

Founded in 1830 it is still owned and run as a family business, which has been making umbrellas, sticks and canes for last 182 years. Originally founded at Fourbert place, the business moved to its current location in 1857 and represents a perfect example of Victorian shop front design and has been unaltered for last 150 years.

The company was one of the first to use the Fox Frame, and the design and materials have changed little over the years, with exception that most covers are nowadays made from nylon.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the weather will improve and the sum comes out. But even if it does, it's worth to visit the shop and have a look at what's on offer and who knows, you may find your perfect umbrella there...
