Located at latitude 38` 47'N, longitude 9` 30'W and altitude 140m (well, boring, boring, boring!), Cabo da Roca is the western most point of the European continent, situated at the very end of the Serra de Sintra. It's one of the symbols of Portugal alongside the "Cock of Barcelos", Ponte Vasco de Gama and Christo Rei. Camoes called this place "the point where the earth ends and the sea begins"...
Cruzeiro (the Cross) is among the 800 geographical points throughout the world that have been dedicated to Peace. And the 165m high lighthouse dates from 1772.
Visitors can buy a certificate at the local tourist office to bear to witness their presence at this unique place for about 10 euro.
